Kronborg, or Hamlet’s Castle in Elsinore (Helsingør), is one of the most beautiful and visited castles in Denmark. It has everything we love about medieval royal mansions: mysterious turrets, vast throne rooms, paintings and tapestries, damp cellars and basements. And, of course, there are stirring echoes of bygone centuries and the ghosts of literary works.
It takes us about 1 hour to get to Elsinore, we will spend an hour each in the castle and the town, and 15–20 minutes in the fishing village.
We'll travel through the northern Copenhagen area and head to Elsinore along the North Zealand coast—one of the country's most spectacular roads. Along the way, we'll stop in the fishing village of Sletet Havan, where you'll admire the ancient architecture and stunning scenery.
is located on the shores of Øresund Bay in the town of Elsinore. We'll explore the castle from the outside and definitely go inside. We'll see:
History, Legends and Shakespeare
We'll visit Elsinore, Denmark's oldest market town on the western shore of the bay. We'll discuss how it became the country's second most important. We'll see the beautiful churches of St. Mary and St. Oley, market squares, and a flower market. We'll stroll along an ancient pedestrian street lined with small, cozy houses and experience the unique atmosphere of a living Middle Ages.
